Puffins and Breiðavík

This post features student writing.

Hey everyone! Haakon and Noah here. We began our day with a typical European breakfast at our hotel in Breiðavík. After eating, we loaded the bus and headed to the bluffs to scout for puffins. For a while, we were without luck, seeing only other sea birds. As we prepared to leave disappointed, our bus driver Thor told us he had found some puffins nearby. We then spent a while enjoying the goofy birds and filling our cameras with pictures.

The picture above is what Katherine has officially named a Grap (a grass nap). We have come to really enjoy the Iceland grass and moss for napping!

Satisfied with our puffin viewing experience, we headed back to Breiðavík for a charcuterie lunch on the beach.

Post-meal, some headed for a walk along the coast while others threw around a frisbee. After that, we had time to work on our independent projects. We then split up and explored the surrounding area.

Tired from a long day, we returned for dinner followed by some games on the lawn, in which some local Icelanders joined us.

Finally, some of us stayed up late to watch the sun set over the Arctic Ocean.
