Our final day! We woke up early to say goodbye to our incredible Smithsonian Expert, Dan Dixon. It was great hearing from him and having him be a part of our trip. After saying goodbye, we finished packing our stuff and had breakfast. It was raining, so we put on our jackets and headed outside. We then walked down to Reykjavik to have some free roam time, just like the first day! We explored different parts of the town than we did the first day, seeing new stores and restaurants. We split into groups and walked around for about an hour. Many bought souvenirs, explored shops, and some got hot chocolate. Walking around Reykjavik was definitely a core memory from this trip because everyone was talking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company in this beautiful city.
After walking around town, we all met up at the Harpa to have our final group meeting of the trip. This meeting was filled with reflections, highs and lows, and what we will miss about Iceland. It was nice to have some final laughs together as a group before going back home. After our meeting, we walked back to the hostel to get our stuff out of storage and hop on the bus. We drove about 45 minutes to the airport, where we checked in and bought dinner. We are currently writing this blog in the airport at 3:30 pm and are about to get on the flight. We all agree that this was an amazing experience and we all made some incredible memories. Can’t believe it is already coming to a close!
