Today we left Breiðavík and headed north toward Isafjordur with many fun stops along the way.
First we stopped to meet with a local fisherman named Ragar who showed us his family-run fish farm that produces 1.5% of all arctic char in the world. He showed us the fish farm and also his family farm and how his family processes sheep skin for sale. We walked away with some smoked char that was absolutely incredible.
Next we headed to a local hot spring for a dip and then on to Dynjandi waterfall, a large falls with a fairly easy hike. The students went all the way up to where they could be soaked by the water from the falls.
We then stopped at the home of a local farmer who educated us on forestry in Iceland and some interesting facts about Icelandic farms.
Lastly we picked up our science expert (Katryn Wiese), spent some time at the beach looking at jellyfish and rocks, and then that evening she presented to the students on Icelandic volcanoes. She passed around rocks from the beach that showed different features of volcanic activity. It was a busy day!
